On a wet, cold and damp setting in Prosperous both teams are to be commended on an excellent game of football. Kynog playing with the wind & hill were put under early pressure from Wesley Heavey of prosperous and only safe handling from Lee Dempsey in the Kynog goal kept him out. Kynog were now beginning to take control and a move saw a great shot from Gary Harnett set up by Colm Staines just flashed wide. A great pass through to Joseph Kenny from Eoin Kelly was well saved by the prosperous goalie but the pressure finally paid off when Conor Donoghue ran from midfield and left the prosperous defence for dead and clinically finished to put Kynog ahead. Prosperous finished the half strongly and Tim Barnett was fouled on the edge of the box and the free was cleared off the line by the Kynog rock Dylan Donoghue. Half time saw the rain come down and prosperous driven on by Lorcan Behan were kept out by solid defending from Brian Elliott and Darragh lynch.

With ten minutes to go kynog made it safe when Adam lynch scored from the   right wing after a lovely move involving Conor donoghue & Joseph Kenny . This made the game safe and while Adam Cully & Luke Herbert went close with a few runs for Kynog no more scores came.

Match Report Under 10 Kynog United V Clane

Kynog Utd 0 -2 Clane

Kynog kicked off and went straight into attack and were unlucky not to score in the opening seconds when Adam Lynch hooked a shot on to the crossbar and Gerry Melia’s follow up was well saved by the Clane keeper. Kynog continued to press while Clane looked dangerous on the break but neither team could create a clear cut chance to break the deadlock until a long ball eluded everyone but the lightning quick Michael Raheen who smashed a shot into the top corner of the Kynog net. Clane doubled their lead a few minutes later when Robert Phillips beat his man and drove a low shot across the keeper into the bottom corner. Kynog came roaring back into the match and pinned Clane back for long spells and only some fine defending and goal keeping kept the score at 2-0 at half-time.

The second half saw another even 20 minutes with both team creating few clear cut chances and when any chances did present themselves, they found two keepers in top form, with Kynog captain, Craig Harris pulling off two fine saves from both Clane goal scorers in a matter of minutes. In the end, Clane shaded an even encounter, but both teams should take great credit for a sporting and entertaining match played in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.

Match Report Under 8 Kynog United V Clane

Kynog Utd 0 – 4 Clane

An illness ravaged Kynog squad entertained Clane on Sunday with only two U8s and the rest of the team made up of U7s and U6s. Clane started brightly and stand-in goalkeeper and captain for the day, Joshua Lee had to move smartly to collect a loose ball in the penalty box. Kynog defended resolutely with Justin Reilly and Johnny Byrne standing firm but they could not hold out until half time and Jack Wright finished smartly to put Clane in front.

The second half continued where the first half left off wih Clane pressing and Kynog trying to hit Clane on the break. Clane doubled their lead as Gareth Carey scored and straight from kick off, Clane added a third as Eoghan Maguire slotted home. Kynog kept pressing and only a fine save from the Clane keeper prevented Owen Melia from pulling one back, while a great last ditch tackle stopped a mazy Josh Harris run on the edge of the penalty box. As Kynog’s young legs tired on a heavy pitch, Clane added a fourth through Andrew Farrell to round out a comprehensive victory.

Match Report Under 10Kynog United V BBC United

Kynog Utd 0-5 BBC Utd

Kynog’s U10’s entertained their local neighbours at a blustery Kynog Park on Saturday morning. The first half was very even and while Conor Carew and Adam Toman were unlucky not to put Kynog ahead, it took a fine full length save from Reece Winders to keep BBC out. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first until BBC scored with a speculative lob. Kynog kept going, looking for an equaliser and were unlucky when Craig Harris was denied twice in the space of seconds by two fantastic blocks by the BBC keeper and defenders. This was not to be Kynog’s day, and with 5 minutes to go, BBC added a second, and then from the restart went straight up the pitch and scored a third. Numbers 4 and 5 were added quickly as Kynog’s heads dropped in the final minutes.

Match Report Under 8 Kynog United V Newbridge

Kynog Utd 1-5 Newbridge

A cool spring morning at Kynog Park saw a 4 goal performance from Newbridge’s Brian Nolan separate the two teams. Kynog, missing a few players, and with mainly an U7 line-up, started the brighter of the two teams pushing Newbridge back with Adam O’Brien instrumental in midfield, and it was no surprise when they took the lead in 5 minutes after a fine passing move involving Adam O’Brien, Joshua Lee and Josh Harris resulted in Josh Harris setting up Ciaran Casey who coolly slotted home. The goal sparked Newbridge into life, and the following 5 minutes saw great football from both sides as Kynog looked to extend their lead and Newbridge looked to get the equaliser. Only a fine point blank save from Kynog captain, Brian Crosse and a great block by Aaron Cullen kept Newbridge out, but within minutes, Newbridge were level as Brian Nolan fired in a shot from the edge of the box. The remainder of the first half continued as before with some great football from both sides but with no further goals.

The second half saw Newbridge’s older and bigger players start to exert their influence on the game, and while Kynog’s younger players refused to give up (as shown by the tireless running of Owen Melia up front), Brian Nolan was able to add a second goal for Newbridge. Kynog had a chance to get level shortly after, but a fine save denied them, and going into the last few minutes, Brian Nolan completed his hat-trick and added a fourth following an unlucky own goal for Kynog. All of the players should take credit for what was an entertaining match played in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Match Report Under 10 Kynog United V Carragh

Kynog Utd 0-5 Caragh Celtic

Having met last week, Kynog went into this game against Caragh looking for a better result. The match started out quite evenly with the ball spending most of the time in midfield as both teams struggled to create chances. Both teams created a number of half chances but both defences reacted quickly to any loose ball preventing either keeper from having to make a save until a through ball found Shaun Gallagher who rounded the Kynog keeper and slotted past the covering Joey Toman. Kynog drove on looking for an equaliser but half chances for both Conor Carew and Gerry Melia were collected by the Caragh keeper. The game continued to remain fairly even, but Caragh extended their lead just before half-time when a powerful shot was deflected into the net by an unfortunate Kynog head, but were denied a third by an excellent reaction save by Kynog keeper, Craig Harris.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, and although Caragh were beginning to dominate territory, Kynog always looked dangerous on the break. Caragh added two quick goals, first when a Daragh Swift shot found the bottom corner, then from a Jason Earley header which was deflected past the Kynog keeper by an unlucky Kynog shoulder. Kynog kept pushing for a consolation goal, with midfielders, Adam Toman and Gerry Melia typifying their desire, covering every blade of grass in the second half. It wasn’t to be for Kynog, and Caragh added a late fifth from the penalty spot, Brian Nolan converting. The final score may not reflect the parity of the contest, but both teams should take great credit for the endeavour and skilled football on display.

UNDER 14 MAJOR DIVISION

KYNOG UNITED        4
NEWBRIDGE TOWN   1

Both teams served up a thoroughly enjoyable game of football for the spectators. Newbridge started the better of the teams and their passing and movement was causing the Kynog defence problems. They were rewarded when an inswinging Danny O Rourke corner found the roof of the net. Kynog began to pass the ball well with Ciaron Baselmans, Gavin Crowe and Martin Baneham prominent. Kynog equalised in the 15th minute when a Jack Kenny through ball found Conor Staines who ran on and shot past the advancing Cillian Smith. Under 14 Match Report Kynog United V Arlington AFC

ARLINGTON  AFC     1
KYNOG UNITED       0

Kynog United made the journey to Arlington last Saturday to take on the local team and gave an all round excellent performance. Their opponents are from a higher division but this was not obvious as the match unfolded with both defences on top and a midfield battle ensuing with Adrian Moran and Eamon Cox outstanding. In attack little was created in terms of chances although Conor Staines and Shane Merriman looked lively. As the half came to a close Jack Kenny and Cian Gilligan continued to deal with the Arlington attack restricting them to long range shots.
The opening minutes of the second half saw Arlington winning more possession and applying more pressure resulting in a number of corners being conceded. In the 50th minute Arlington scored from close range following a corner kick. Kynog responded with a Gavin Crowe shot being blocked and a Jack Kenny shot from long range being tipped over the bar by the keeper. Kynog were unable to find a way past the well organised Arlington defence. Every Kynog player can be proud of their performance once again as they continue to improve.
