Under 14 Match Report Kynog United V Newbridge Town

UNDER 14 MAJOR DIVISION

KYNOG UNITED        4
NEWBRIDGE TOWN   1

Both teams served up a thoroughly enjoyable game of football for the spectators. Newbridge started the better of the teams and their passing and movement was causing the Kynog defence problems. They were rewarded when an inswinging Danny O Rourke corner found the roof of the net. Kynog began to pass the ball well with Ciaron Baselmans, Gavin Crowe and Martin Baneham prominent. Kynog equalised in the 15th minute when a Jack Kenny through ball found Conor Staines who ran on and shot past the advancing Cillian Smith. Newbridge almost retook the lead in the 27th minute but headed narrowly wide from another corner. At the other end a Gavin Crowe cross just evaded the onrushing forwards.
The second half saw Kynog winning more posession in the middle of the field and they were rewarded when another Jack Kenny pass found Shane Merriman who ran on and found the corner of the net to give the home team the lead. Aaron Gallagher and Barry Doyle in midfield drove their team on in search of an equaliser. This nearly arrived when a shot direct from a free kick was heading for the top corner of the goal before Blaine Treacy made a good save. Kynog broke away and a Martin Baneham shot came back off the crossbar. The home team extended their lead in the 55th minute when Gavin Crowe volleyed home from the edge of the area. Luke Fitzsimons and Patrick Hudson were introduced for Kynog and both made telling contributions. The days scoring was completed in the 65th minute when Martin Baneham scored direct from a corner.
