Naas Adult English Scheme is one of three adult literacy schemes run by Co. Kildare V.E.C. It is financed by the the Department of Educaiton & Science, through the Adult Literacy & Community Education budget, administered by the V.E.C. The scheme is affiliated to the National Adult LIteracy Agency (NALA).

Aim
The aim of Naas Adult English Scheme is to meet the basic education needs of adults in our area returning to learning by providing a quality service.

Objectives
To provide a reliable, confidential,non-threatening quality service.
To provide a personalised learning programme to meet the expressed
needs of the individual
To develop a user friendly learning climate.

The scheme aims to provide a service for adults (over 16 years of age) who express the need for help with the basic skills of reading/writing/spelling and numeracy.

Key Operational Features

With a student centred approach we aim to meet the basic educational needs of all our students. We constantly strive to ensure that this approach permeates all our activities, from student first making contact with scheme through to tutor training, delivery of tuition and all our work-place practices.

On making contact with the scheme the potential student is invited to come to the centre at an appointed time for a chat with the coordinator. This informal assessment allows the student to express his/her needs and the coordinator to explain how we propose to meet those needs. The student is then placed within the scheme according to his/her needs i.e. 1/1, group, subject, date, time, venue etc. The coordinator arranges this and meets the student and tutor to make the introductions.
