Tutors
No formal qualifications are necessary to become a voluntary literacy tutor.
· Each volunteer is required to attend and participate in a 22 hour initial tutor training course, and adhere to the requirements of attendance and completion of assignments as instructed throughout the course.
· Participation in the course does not guarantee work as a tutor.
· On completion of the initial tutor training course tutors are expected to work a minimum of one hundred hours on a voluntary basis in a one to one situation (one tutor/one learner).
· In-service training of approximately 15 hours per annum is provided and attendance is expected.
· The attitudes and values of the volunteer are as important as the practical skills.
