23 July 2008 - EHistory Easysite reaches 300 articles!

We have now over 300 articles relating to the history and heritage of Co. Kildare online on Ehistory as a result of using the EasySites system – we do not have the time nor the expertise to manage a full scale website and as we are already part of other organisations one more ‘website’ would be redundant and misleading. Easysites allowed us to meld  concentrated ‘historic’ content to the existing sites but more importantly allowed us control over the content and the updating of content. We have regular contributors and have had people from the US etc. actually contribute content which might otherwise be lost to people with an interest in the history and heritage of Co. Kildare.

The Schools Curriculum category to mention but one of many,  has allowed us to provide help for students looking for special history topics and also to demonstrate in a classroom or school visit setting how libraries are evolving in terms of the internet and technology.

The response has been marvellous and to date we have had over 51,000 visits with over 140,000 page views – and the best thing is  that it is not too difficult; as soon as you get the hang of it then you tend to use the same methods over and over to add more material and these is the key – keep adding material and keep the site interesting.

EHistory provides a focus and a forum for history and heritage in Co. Kildare and allows us to make unique sources available to  researchers and the general public but it also allows us to keep the interest alive not just in Kildare but across the world.
