"A Sense of Place"Open Submission Show Friday 22nd to Friday 29th August
Artists were invited to submit up to two works for exhibition. From these submissions, Breda Smyth chose 30 pieces to be included in the exhibition which will run until Friday 28th of August. The show was aimed particularly at amateur and aspiring artists, and invited them to express their individual interpretation of the county and place in which they live. The challenge of selecting the works to be included in the exhibition was no easy task! A large number of entries were received, and these were in a wide variety of media, styles and interpretations. However, after careful examination, the finalists were chosen, and the award winners identified. The awards will be announced on the night for a number of categories: Best Exploration of the Theme, Most Innovative Submission, Judge’s Favourite, and Judge’s Second Favourite! A Sense of Place is the first open submission show to be held at the Riverbank, and gave an opportunity to all amateur and aspiring artists to have their work included in an exhibition at an official venue, hopefully giving them the encouragement to continue exploring their artistic abilities. Riverbank Arts Centre intends to make the exhibition an annual event, open to young and old, establishing an important event in the artistic calendar of County Kildare. Any artist who wishes to be notified about such opportunities in the future, should contact (045) 448314. The exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday 23rd until Friday 29th of August 2003. Gallery opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 am
to 1 pm, and 2 pm – 5pm. |
