Parking Meter Arts are pleased to announce the launch of the publication Transitopia 2008.

Transitopia 2008  is free to the public and can be collected during the launch on Saturday 20th 2008 and from selected libraries and venues from January 2009.

The publication will be launched during a tea and coffee reception on Saturday 20th December at 3pm in the former Dara Cinema, Main Street, Naas. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The publication is part of the Transitopia project funded by Kildare County Council which seeks to explore the shifting built environment and identity of Naas, Co. Kildare.  The book is a continuation of, and expansion upon, the Transitopia events which took place in Naas during August ‘08, including temporary site-specific public artworks and a silent cinema screening in Naas Town Hall.   The publication also reinforces the project website and online platform for public discussion and debate: www.transitopia.wordpress.com

The publication contains documentation of, and elaboration upon, the work of four artists; Michelle Browne, Jo Anne Butler, Elaine Reynolds and Dominic Thorpe, who each activated work during August, and presents the completed research projects of a further two artists, Carl Giffney and Dara McGrath, who were also commissioned by the project. A visual/textual piece by Kildare born artist Sarah Browne, Irelands forthcoming co-representative in the Venice Biennale, also features in the book along with texts by the project’s curators Mark Durkan and Mary-Jo Gilligan.
