The Kosovar Refugee Arts Project

Kildare County Council in association with the Eastern Health Board and members of the Kosovar Refugee Community in Kildare town are pleased to announce details of a unique arts project currently taking place in Kildare. The project involves the placement of English textile artist Joyce Burns who will work with the Kosovar women's group in teaching weaving skills. The project was mooted by the women themselves who have already displayed a particular interest in the textile arts. It is hoped that the completed pieces will be woven together and displayed in The County Hall before the group leave in June.

The Rathangan Community Arts Project

The Rathangan Community Arts Project "Guth Ón bPorach will enter its final stages during summer 2000. Artists, Monica de Bath and Deborah Ni Chaeimhe has been working steadily in the town on a range of workshops and skills exchange programmes based on the skills of working with clay and weaving. During May and June intensive workshops will tale place in paper making and working with willow between a cluster of local and regional artists. Those involved will participate in a sculpture trial in and around the town of Rathangan in mid July. The trial will be based around a number of other events including a seminar/open forum, based on the topic of working in community arts in a rural context. Reminiscence Theatre Project

A Reminiscence Theatre Organisation which emerged from VTOS has begun a workshop programme with older members of the community, including groups and individuals from Active Retirement Associations and Day-care centres. The organisation which consists of workshop practitioners Kate Connaughton and Sarah Kearney presents a gentle afternoon of Reminiscence Theatre with members of the Newbridge Active Retirement Group as part of the Bealtaíne Festival.
