Firemen from two continents meet in Naas

Naas fireman Emmet Loughlin, sub officer Eamonn Walsh, Co Kildare Chief Fire Officer Michael Fitzsimons, Rik Prusha - who drives a fire engine in Omaha - and Naas station officer Anthony Doyle.

NAAS, 15 August 2002: by Brian Byrne. There's a brotherhood among firemen (and firewomen) the world over, and that link was cemented at a local level last week when an Omaha fireman made a presentation of shirts to colleagues in Naas.

Rik Prusha was one of a delegation of Omaha people who came on a twinning visit to Naas, and he made the presentation to Naas station officer Anthony Doyle and to County Kildare's Chief Fire Officer Michael Fitzsimons.

He was given a tour of the new station in Naas and inspected the fire tenders, including the unique 13-year-old machine built for accessing difficult sites over bad terrain. He also looked at the training board (below) where firemen are coached in how to deal with traffic problems on the way to a callout.

Rik appreciated that part well - he drives one of the fire trucks in the Omaha station near the city's airport.
