God (Benoit Poelvoorde) is a bad-tempered man who lives in a run-down Brussels flat with his wife and young 10-year-old daughter Ea. He takes delight in inflicting misery on humanity on a daily basis with a system of vindictive rules.
When Ea decides she has had enough of her father’s pettiness, she escapes and sets out to recruit six apostles, who will help her write a new bible based on their “gospels”.
The latest film from Belgian director Jaco Van Dormael (Toto the Hero, Mr. Nobody) is a highly original but irreverent black comedy, that manages to encompass religious satire, laugh-out-loud humour and an optimistic vision of humankind.
