Motorsport Ireland National Championship Car Race

Motorsport Ireland National Championship Car Race

with drivers competing on the full 3.5KM International Track for the first time this year.

The line-up for the Count Kildare Motor Club's ten race event includes races for Formula Vee, the Irish Touring Car Championship (ITCC) and a visit from the Northern Irish Seven's, alongside a number of other championships.

Formula Vee has its third race of the year at Mondello Park this coming Sunday and this ever popular class will almost certainly prove one the highlights of the day. The popularity of the International circuit layout with Vee drivers should attract the biggest grid of the season so far, with up to thirty cars expected. 2011 has been an incredibly competitive season in Vees, with three different winners from the three rounds held so far and with such a strong line-up, Sunday's single race could see yet another driver top the podium.

The ITCC will have its second Mondello Park race of the season with its 'Super Touring' and 'Touring' classes running together on the longer track. Martin Tracey currently leads the Super Touring Class from Philip Burdock, while in the Touring division it is Robert Savage who leads form Danny Calnan. This popular championship is one of the biggest crowd pleaser's introduced to Irish racing in many years and should match the Vee's, both numerically and in terms of action, over the course of their two races.

The remainder of the programme will be made up of championship races for a number of classes, with some races seeing two classes combined. The Kirkistown based Northern Ireland Sevens series will arrive in Mondello for their second annual visit and will race twice. The Strykers and Fiats will share the track for a double header, as will the Formula Sheane and Formula Libre racers, with the Libre tussle being a non-championship event. The programme will be completed by a strong grid of Historics who, unusually, will have two races in a single day.

Saturday at Mondello Park will also have a competitive element to it as for the first time pre race testing will be combined with a round of the Mondello Park Time-Attack championship. The Time-Attack competitors will have their first chance of the year to compete on the International track and Saturday's event will be round two of their six round series.

Sunday's event gets underway with qualifying at 09:00 with the first race set for 11:00. Admission is €15.00 for adults with accompanied under sixteen’s free of charge and all admission prices include a complimentary programme. Discount Ticket offers are available by visiting www.mondellopark.ie/specials.
