Under 8 Kynog United VSallins

Kynog Utd 1-0 Sallins Celtic

Kynog’s youngsters recorded their first win of their first season as they shaded a close match against Sallins on a cold morning in Timahoe. Kynog started brightly and put Sallins under pressure from the start with Ciaran Casey making some great runs down the left wing and the Kynog Utd midfield of Josh Harris, Joshua Lee and Justin Reilly keeping Sallins in their own half for long periods with some great passing and strong running, while Jack Francis of Sallins made tackle after tackle in defence to keep Kynog out. Sallins worked their way into the game with Aaron Dalton and Louis Aarshiouk combining well and it was only a fantastic last ditch tackle from Kynog captain, Cathal Walsh, that kept them out just before half-time. The second half followed a similar pattern with Kynog pressing for a winner and Sallins trying to catch Kynog on the break. Ben O’Haire and Luke Farrell combined to first set up Owen Melia and then Brian Crosse who both went close, while Thomas Fallon broke up Sallins attacks as the match moved into its closing stages. It looked as though the match was going to end in a draw until man-of-the-match, Johnny Byrne picked up a loose ball in midfield, went past two Sallins defenders and drove an unstoppable shot into the corner of the Sallins net to give Kynog the win, but this was a match that both teams took a great deal of credit from for their performance and enthusiasm as they put on a great show for another large crowd at Kynog Park.

Under 10 Match Report V Sallins Celtic

Kynog Utd U10  0 – 0 Sallins Celtic U10

The scoreline does not reflect the entertainment that the two teams served up in Timahoe on Saturday. The game opened at a frantic pace and both teams went close to opening the scoring but some great defending from Sallins and the Kynog Utd keeper, Catherine Fallon, kept the score at 0-0 : one save in particular brought gasps from the crowd as she touched a a fierce drive onto the post.

The second half saw more of the same as both sides searched for an elusive winner : one goal always looked like winning this match.Kynog went close through Conor Carew, David Dunn and Craig Harris, while some excellent defending from Reece Winders, Stephen Burke and Gerry Melia kept Sallins out.

Under 12 Match Report V Kilcullen

U12 Premier Division

Kynog United      2

Kilcullen AFC     2

On a cold and windy Saturday morning Kilcullen were the visiting team to Kynog park in Timahoe in this return game , Kilcullen started the stronger with Conor O Reilly and Daryl Hunter prominent for the visitors in defence. With Kynog having some regular players injured some of their fellow club mates were only to happy to step up from u11 to assist the team and did not look out of place in the premier division. Joseph Kenny  was on hand after a string of some fine passing and team play to open the scoring for Kynog United when Brian McGrath crossed the ball across the Kilcullen goal for Kenny to calmly slot the ball into the back of the net.

Minutes later Kilcullen levelled the scoring when Conor Healy scored the equalizer. With play going from end to end the Kynog midfield dominated the play and with some hard work from Evan Treacy and Brian McGrath their persistence paid off when a ball was sent up the wing for Ryan Bingham who so calmly controlled the ball and beat the advancing keeper. Just before half time Kilcullens Jason McHugh scored the equalizer. The second half saw some great football been played by these two evenly matched teams . Sam Reissig Dowling was controlling the left wing for the visitors.

Ross Maher Kynog shot stopper was in fine form pulling off some crucial saves and with some superb handling. Graham O Brien, Robert Beirne Shane Morrison and Darragh Lynch were standing firm in defence. Both teams were  hungry for the winning goal; Conor Murray came on for the  home team and made an immediate impact. With the second half remaining scoreless both teams deservedly came away with a point each.

Under 14 Match Report V Kilcullen

U14 Major Division

Saturday 10th November

Kynog United 0

Kilcullen         4

Kilcullen ran out comfortable winners in Kynog park last Saturday morning although the scoreline does not reflect how evenly matched the teams were. The visitors started well and opened the scoring in the 12 th minute when Kynog were slow in clearing their lines and Johnny Capils was on hand to find the back of the net. To their credit Kynog responded with Jack Kenny in midfield and Gavin Crowe and Martin Baneham playing as strikers causing the Kilcullen defence problems . Conor Staines went close to equalizing in the 23rd minute with a shot that just cleared the crossbar Jack Kenny did likewise in the 31st minute.

The second half started with the home team on top creating chances but a combination of poor finishing and good defending by David Mitchell and Eoin Stafford for Kilcullen kept the visitors ahead. A long ball out of the Kilcullen defence

was allowed to bounce and in nipped John Keatley whose shot found the back of the net. In the 55th minute Kilcullen increased their advantage when John Keatley scored his second on the day. Howard Peacock and Aaron Talbot continued to play well for Kilcullen. Enda Mullins completed the days scoring for Kilcullen in the 64th minute.

Several individuals played well for Kynog United but unfortunately they did not perform together as a team on the day.

Under 12match report V Clane

U12 Premier division

Saturday 10th November

Kynog United 1

Clane United  4

Clane United made the short journey to Kynog Park & the visitors put the pressure on from the first blow of the whistle. Kevin O Brien had to be extra alert in the heart of the Kynog defence as Devina Ntim was having a great game. The Visitors opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Michael O Reilly broke through Kynog defence beating the advancing Ross Maher in the Kynog goals. Just before half time the same player was on hand to double his teams scoring.

Under 8 Kynog United V Kilcock Celtic

Kynog Utd 0 – 4 Kilcock Celtic

Another large crowd at Kynog Park saw Kilcock run out worthy winners after playing some nice neat football. Kynog opened slowly and found themselves under pressure from the start and only some last ditch defending from Kaytlin Maher and Aaron Cullen kept Kilcock out in those frantic opening exchanges. Kynog worked themselves into the match and Kilcock must have wondered if their best chances had gone, until Sean Burns netted with a fine finish to put them 1-0 up. The game continued to look even in the run up to half time until a horrendous piece of bad luck for Kynog saw them go 2-0 down when a hopeful ball into the box was turned into the net by a Kynog boot with no Kilcock player near. The teams turned round for the second half and it was Kilcock who again started strongly and it was no surprise when Finlay Nainr put them 3-0 up with a fine angled drive. They could have gone further in front if it wasn’t for Kynog goalkeeper, Cathal Walsh, who made some good saves to keep the score at 3-0. Kynog continued to battle and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet through Owen Melia or Johnny Byrne whose shots were well saved by the Kilcock keeper, but it wasn’t to be for Kynog, and Kilcock added a further fine strike from Adam McNally to run out comfortable winners despite the best efforts of a Kynog team who never gave up.

u11 match report away to kildare

U11 MAJOR DIVISION

KILDARE  4 V KYNOG UTD 2

It had to happen some day and the u11 team finally lost in the league after seven games. However this match had everything and Kynog can feel proud of there efforts.

Kildare started strongly and only strong defending from Dylan Donoghue and Brian Elliott kept Kildare out. Corner after corner was coming in and eventually a cruel bounce beat Lee Dempsey in goals to put Kildare ahead. Kynog responded and went close with Darragh Lynch and Conor Murray driving Kynog forward..

Half time came and the brave Colm Staines who received a high kick to the head was replaced by Declan Reilly.

Kildare scored from a header five minutes in and were still the stronger team but some great catches from Lee kept  Kynog in it.

Finally Kynog started to play and Joseph Kenny was hacked down for a penalty and straight red against Kildare; however the kick was high & wide. Kynog never gave up and a lovely run from Adam lynch and a chip into the top corner brought Kynog

Back into it. Kildare were not to be undone and a great shot to the top corner brought them back to a two goal lead. Again Kynog pushed forward and Joseph Kenny blasted to the net. End to end stuff followed and Kynog had chances to snatch an equaliser but tiredness let Kildare in for their fourth and game over.

Once again a very sporting match between these two evenly matched sides. Kynog were well served by Lee Dempsey, Conor Murray and Adam Lynch with the man of the match going to Adam Cully who was rock in defence

Kynog United  0

Arthgarvan      1

The match began with the Athgarvan midfield of Louis Deveraux Stephen O Brien and Shane Saul winning most of the possession in midfield. Athgarvan went close to opening the scoring in the 7th minute when they went through the Kynog defence and were only denied by an excellent save by Blaine Treacy in the Kynog goal. Shane Merriman linked up with Conor Staines whose shot was well saved by the Athgarvan keeper. Martin Baneham was playing well for the hosts in the full back position. Athgarvan  opened the scoring in the 18th minute when from a corner a Danny Kavanagh header crossed the line before Eoin O Reillys clearing header. Deservedly ahead Athgarvan went in search of another goal but found the home teams defence resilient.

The second half saw the game stretched as players began to tire. In the 45th minute Kynog almost equalised when a Jack Kenny shot came back off the crossbar. To their credit Athgarvan defended well with Josh Molloy outstanding. A Martin Baneham run and shot almost produced an equaliser in the closing minutes. On the day Athgarvan deservedly won and Kynog were best served by Jack Kenny, Eamon Cox , Martin Baneham and Cian Gilligan.
