DRUIDS AND ROOTERS TOY RUN 2012
Taken from the Kilkenny people. Published on Sunday 9 December 2012. The Druids and Rooters Motorcycle Clubs have just completed their 22nd Annual Cycle Run in aid of St Patrick’s Centre Kilkenny. Murty Campion and Darren Leeson with many friends from each club have developed a very unique launch to the Christmas season for the residents and staff of St Patrick’s. On the first Saturday of December for the last 22 years, the Druids and Rooters Club harness a population of people who want to do something special. This cycle run aims to create and enhance the Christmas spirit for the people with an intellectual disability in St Patrick’s. The event also fosters a sense of solidarity with St Patrick’s residents. Last Saturday, 187 motor bikes arrived in convoy to St Patrick’s. The convoy was over a mile long on the Ring Road, and each rider came laden with gifts for every resident in St Patrick’s, a hamper of gifts for every house and a very substantial financial contribution to the centre. The only request of the organisers was that this funding be spent exclusively on Christmas social activities for the people who live in St Patrick’s. John Murphy, general manager of St Patrick’s, thanked the organisers and all those present for their very significant contribution to the life of St Patrick’s. “This event is one of the most important in the year for our residents and staff,” he said. “On behalf of all the people who live and work in St Patrick’s Centre, I wish to thank both clubs and each rider for their presence here today and for the difference that they make.”
