DRUIDS AND ROOTERS TOY RUN 2010
The annual Toy Run was due to take place on Saturday the 4/11/2010, but due to the severe weather conditions a decision to postpone the run was taken. Weather-wise, this had to be one of the worst weeks in December, with snow and ice closing most roads in the Leinster area.
The run eventually took place on Sat 18/11/2010, when although, the weather was still pretty bad, with most secondary roads still impassable on a bike, the main roads were open. We decided to go with the run knowing that numbers would be down, but we did not want to disappoint the people at St Patrick’s.
As expected the numbers were down. 52 bikes turned up on the day, which is about a quarter of the usual turn out. But fortunately, people were still very generous as was reflected in donations of around 2,000euro in cash, and 1,000 Euro worth of hampers were handed over on the day.
The run went without incident, thank god, considering that the temperature did not get above – 3 degrees all day, with freezing fog on some parts of the road. A big thank you to all who braved the weather, and gave up their day for this worthy cause. Even though our numbers were down, the occupants of ‘St Patrick’s’ were delighted to see us, and we really appreciated the warming soup and sandwiches laid on for us by the Staff.
