At Burtown House and Gardens
The Fennel family have opened the Green Barn cafe/ restaurant at Burtown House outside Athy, just off the M9 motorway. Serving wholesome healthy food, the cafe is open daytime from Wednesday to Sunday. Restaurant open Saturday nights.
They now also have self catering accommodation at the redeveloped stables. The family now have onsite vegetable gardens, which are being developed by organic grower Dermot Carey. An ambitious plan has been set to have up to 90% of fruit and vegetables for the cafe/restaurant to come from the walled gardens.
The Irish Times Weekend Magazine reviewer (Catherine Cleary) gives Athy's newest eatery the thumbs up - with a top score of 8.5 out of 10!
