Summer (June)
June has been used and abused as far as musicals
are concerned at least. It is because of it’s sound. ‘Crooning to
the Moon in June’ is only a start!. At least for one it was “June
is bustin’ out all over” which was a bit lively and a bit more to
the point, as we do expect our roses to be making a show by then.
Just because it’s ‘June, June, June’ we sometimes feel that, because
Summer is here we should be making progress on the gardening front,
the romantic, and also in panic feeling that if we don’t get a bit
of sun and sand shortly, we will have to wait for a whole other
year to do so!
This year I propose to forget, at least for a few
days, that the longest day of the year comes and goes too quickly
and try to convince myself that real summer doesn’t have to have
the longest light hours etc. Even stranger things happened many
years ago on St. John’s Eve but that’s another story. So my advice
this month is don’t panic! Spend a little more time to watch the
grass grow and the river flow as part of the amazing flux of life
that we are part of and should in our acceptance of inevitable changes
also enjoy to the best.. Happy June.
Best, Lydia
What's in Newbridge for Tourists
Newbridge is one of the biggest towns in County
Kildare. In the past few years, the population of Newbridge has
exploded and in recent years a good number of foreign nationalists
have come to live and work in the area. Recently, the New White
Water Shopping centre has opened. In this complex there is everything
for the shopper, be it male or female, and plenty of Coffee shops
to fill the belly. In the main town of Newbridge there are plenty
of shops, and pubs who have music in them at the weekends. At
the weekend there is grey -hound racing on a Friday and Saturday
night.
Kildare being a football and racing county, there
is racing often on the Curragh only two miles from Newbrige town,
and in the local football and soccer pitches there are matches
on a regular basis. The river Liffey flows through Newbridge and
it is perfect for a spot of fishing or a walk along its banks.
Finally no visit to Newbridge is complete without dropping into
Platinum Clubhouse for a cup of tea and a chat.

My Starting Achievement's
Let me start off by saying a big Thanks to all
at Platinum Clubhouse for making me feel very welcome. My name
is David I was born in London England to Irish parents. My Mother
is from Kildare and my Father from Kerry. Anyway I wont bore you
with the details of my background Ha Ha.
Just recently I completed a course in basic computers at the V.T.O.S
centre in Newbridge. It ran for 10 weeks about 20 classes. I thought
it was very interesting and a very well run course. And I would
highly recommend it to everyone who has not got round to doing
a computer course. I don’t know why but I had a fear of using
a computer, maybe it was a fear of the unknown, or it was all
them people that I met that would speak to me in computer jargon.
There is a computer at my place of residence, but I would not
go near it. But now you cant keep me off the thing. I feel very
proud of myself and feel that finally I’m starting to achieve
my real goals in life.

Summer Here
Save Water
Fix any leaky taps or water pipes, even a small
drip can add up to a lot of water over time. Don’t leave the tap
running while brushing your teeth or shaving. A shower uses much
less water and energy than a bath. Run dishwashers and washing machines
with full loads.
Also, wash at a cooler temperature, up to
90% of the energy used for washing is used heating the water. In
the garden, leave the grass a little longer, maybe 2.5 inches, this
will shade the roots and cut down on evaporation.

Beauty of Country Side
Winding roads through glens that never end, Many
ditches shelter each side of a country trail, Busy cars scoot
along each awkward bend, As pedestrians carry on their routine
way without fail, I cycle along contented, inhaling the fresh
air. As I listen to the birds whistling their chirpy song. Just
myself and natural scenery for to share, As nature of countryside
was in me belong. Rich green foliage grows natural at each dyke.
With many trees growing wild with great ease,
In summer childhood I travel in haste on my bike. With freedom
in my heart I do as I please. Remembering back the ecstasy of
my childhood days, Running through the fields and having fun.
A feeling of country comfort within me lies, Been a country boy
with glee I wish forever begun.
I used to pick wild mushrooms on a cow dung field,
Or searching from bush-to-bush for bird’s eggs, Nature in my heart
had me entirely healed. Being aware of any stinging nettles on
my legs, I loved to smell the wild and scarlet briar rose, Or
collecting the colourful lilac on each tree. The cowslip and the
buttercups lavishing growth Just some of the pleasures the country
meant to me. My countryside is familiar to me in many ways, Of
all the land I explored through the many years. But the inner
culture of this area within lies, In a lifetime of dreams forsaken
by many fears.
Derelict buildings are scattered from place-to-place,
Once children reared there but now gone abroad. It is of my countryside
within me to embrace, To the beauty of a homeland created by our
true lord. A natural beauty my countryside does behold, That develops
more within the seasons of each year. Even though these country
landscapes are centuries old, My heart will be within its nature
oh so near. As pedestrians carry on their routine way without
fail, I cycle along contented, inhaling the fresh air. As I listen
to the birds whistling their chirpy song. Just myself and natural
scenery for to share,
As nature of countryside was in me belong.
