Imagining A Landscape

Imagining A Landscape

A free seminar organised by Creative Rathangan Meitheal on Saturday November 30th in Rathangan Community Library.

The recent announcements by the ESB of the imminent closure of the Shannonbridge and Lanesboro Power Stations further accelerates the pace of Bord na Mona’s move away from peat extraction. Taken in tandem with proposals from the Joint Committee on Climate Action that the State moves to “rewet” some 270,000ha of the country’s industrial peatlands by 2030, it is clear that the landscape across the Midlands and around Rathangan is going to change dramatically. What might it mean in terms of employment, and for local communities? What will this landscape look like and what might become of the Ballydermot Bogs? What might it mean for biodiversity, and for remnants of raised bog in the area?

In an attempt to answer these questions Creative Rathangan Meitheal is hosting a seminar – Imagining A Landscape – on Saturday November 30th from 10.00 to 1.00 pm in Rathangan Community Library.
