Kildare Learners Promote Health & Wellbeing

Countywide Festival of Adult Learning Celebrates Outstanding Projects
Newbridge, Kildare Town, Kilcullen and Athy

Despite the snow, The Kildare Adult Learners Festival kicked off in great style last week with events in Athy, Newbridge and Kilcullen. It's all part of the national AONTAS Adult Learner Festival supported by KWETB, Community Education Service - Kildare.  This theme chosen by the Community Education Service for this year is 'Health & Wellbeing'.

Home School Community Liaison, Athy.

The week started with a Relax and Refresh morning hosted by the Mindful Mammies Circle, Athy in Church of Ireland Hall, Carlow Road, Athy.  The group prepared an inspiring display and shared the skills and insights they have gained while participating in their Wellness for Women project and were also presented with their certificates by Community Education Facilitator, Susan Cullinane.

The Newbridge Women's Group stated their series of events with two Chat & Chill Mornings at the Riverbank Arts Centre and Newbridge Parish Centre. The group shared their experiences of practicing mindfulness and how it has changed their everyday lives. There is one further chance to catch this event when it will be repeated on Thursday March 15th at the Riverbank Arts Centre from 11am to 1p.m.

The first week ended with the opening of the Meditation Trail at Camphill, Kilcullen. Come.The good attendance were introduced to the project which included a display charting the development of the project before being brought around the trail which encourages you to focus on the five senses.

Two of the original events had to be postponed by one week so Monday, March 12th sees the Stargazer Choirdeliver a spine-tingling performance of a song they have written themselves about homelessness in Ireland. This not to be missed event will take place at Newbridge Family Resource Centre from 10 am to 12 noon.

The following day, on Tuesday morning in Kildare Town you will be in for a feast for the senses as the Gather & Grow Group, Eve Harvest officially launch their sensory garden from 11 to 1pm.  Visitors are encouraged to bring plants to swap and there will be an opportunity to collect cuttings from established plants. 

In total over 80 adults have taken part in a 15-week long project to learn new skills, develop uplifting health and wellbeing projects and make new friends in their communities.

Admission is free to all events and complimentary refreshments will be served.
