History - An Introduction
On this page you will find History Resources for teachers and pupils in primary education. Some of the sites listed below are a useful resource for History classes.
History is part of the Social, Environmental, and Scientific Education Curriculum.
This is a resource for teachers, parents and of course the children that wish to study History in primary schools in County Kildare, Ireland. All submissions and suggestions for this section of the site are most welcome.
Through local history children can
become familiar with the local environment and they learn to appreciate
the elements of the past which have given them and their locality a
sense of identity.
Through investigating, using
evidence, recognising sequences, exploring cause and effect, noticing
change and synthesising the information they have gathered, the
children will come to interpret the past for themselves.
Children can look at
studies in local, national and international contexts, explore the past
from a range of perspectives and from a range of historical periods,
reflect the contributions of different ethnic and cultural groups,
social classes and religious traditions.
This should foster the child's sense of local, national and European identity
