South Western Area Health BoardOverviewThe South Western Area Health Board has responsibility to deliver the services which were previously provided by the Eastern Health Board to all of County Kildare. It also delivers services to Dublin inner city south of the River Liffey, South County Dublin, and West Co. Wicklow. The new Health Board is one of three Area Health Boards that was established in March 2000 the South Western Area Health Board, the Northern Area Health Board and the East Coast Area Health Board. The Eastern Regional Health Authority is the statutory body with responsibility for health and personal social services for the 1.5 million people who live in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow. The Authority is not directly involved in the delivery of services. Service delivery is the responsibility of the three Area Health Boards, the Voluntary Hospitals and the Voluntary Intellectual Disability Agencies in the region. The South Western Area Health Board has a population of over 500,000 and over 4,000 staff who deliver a wide range of health and personal social services. It is an objective
