The home of the Ryder Cup, The K Club was the venue for a special golf clinic hosted by golfing legend, Padraig Harrington. Padraig was part of the 2006 European Ryder Cup team when Europe claimed victory over the United States and returned to the iconic golf course to offer some inspiration and encouragement to children and young players. K Club member’s children met with Padraig and watched him in action as he demonstrated his skill and gave some great tips on improving both their long and short game.
Padraig himself started playing golf at the tender age of four and said, “It’s really important to encourage children to start playing as young as possible. Even from an early age and during my school years I loved to practise, and with two brothers, an uncle and my father all playing off 5 handicaps, I couldn't wait to catch up! I did so at the start of 1987, at age 15 and was down to scratch by the end of the year.”
Sharon Smurfit, Director of Membership at The K Club said, “It’s wonderful that Padraig has taken time out of his busy schedule to be here with us today. He is an inspirational player and we hope that his visit here to The K Club will inspire these young golfers and encourage them to keep practising and keep playing.”
The K Club is home to two Championship Golf Courses - The Palmer Ryder Cup Course, venue for the 2006 Ryder Cup and The Smurfit Course, host venue for several European Opens.
Membership to the newly formed Smurfit Golf Club, located on the Smurfit Course, is now open for new members with Junior Membership available. A limited number of International and Country Club memberships are also available.
