Heritage Week 2009 Dates Confirmed

Those eager to make an early start on preparations for this year's Heritage Week will be delighted to hear that the dates for Heritage Week 2009 have been confirmed as the 22nd to the 30th of August.

Heritage Week 2008 was the most successful yet with over 1000 events organised nationwide. Events ranged from night time bat walks, music recitals, poetry readings, historical walks, talks and re-enactments to whale watching, medieval festivals, children’s activities and wildlife and bio-diversity events. The Heritage Council is looking forwarding to building on this success in 2009 and hopes to encourage involvement from an even more diverse range of groups and organisations.

Heritage Week is co-ordinated in Ireland by the Heritage Council in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, and is part of European Heritage Days, which is celebrated in over 40 countries across Europe.
