Free Biodiversity Events at Bog of Allen Nature Centre



biodiversity week 2013 National Biodiversity Week is the 18th – 26th May and the Bog of Allen Nature Centre are delighted to announce that funding provided by Minister Deenihan through  ‘Notice Nature’ Ireland's Public Awareness Campaign for Biodiversity has allowed the centre to offer two free events during the week for members of the public.
 
From 2-5pm on Sunday the 19th May the Bog of Allen Nature Centre will be open for free for everyone to come and explore and learn about peatlands.  There will be children’s activities including pond dipping and frog and newt searches and for adults an information talk on the diversity of peatland plants followed by a guided walk to Lodge bog.   Visitors can also enjoy guided tours of the peatland exhibition centre and wildlife gardens.  No booking necessary.
 
From 10am-1pm on Wednesday the 22nd May the centre will host an information workshop on the butterflies of Ireland followed by a butterfly identification session along the National Biodiversity Data Centres butterfly transect at Lullymore West.  Butterflies recorded on the day will be submitted to the National Biodiversity Data Centre.  Participants should contact the centre to book a place on this information workshop by calling 045-860133 or e-mail bogs@ipcc.ie.
