Minister of State, and Fianna Fail TD for Kildare North, Áine Brady met with the Minister for Education Batt O’Keeffe today regarding the delay on the Kill National School.

“The Department of Education received confirmation from the Contractor on the Kill National School that the company had been put into receivership.”

“The Minister assured me that as soon as the Department heard of the receivership that contacted the Design Team who in turn liaised with the Contractor, the Receiver and the Bondsman.”

“A site meeting was held this morning to discuss the situation and agree how to progress. The Design Team is on site to assess the work that has been done so far and to ensure that the site is secured.”

“The project is Bonded which means that there is an form of security in place in case of the Contractor going bankrupt or going into receivership. It is vital that the taxpayer in projected in this way.”

“When I met with Minister O’Keeffe I emphasised to him that the pupils and staff of Kill National School have needed this new school for many years.”

“These developments will mean that the project will be delayed for 4 to 6 months. This is a very disappointing set back for the pupils and teachers at Kill National School but I am confident from talking to the Minister that the Department is committed to progressing the project as soon as possible and I will be monitoring developments very closely,” concluded Minister Brady.
