Team AcidRain, from NUI Maynooth, have won the Silver Award in the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2008, the world's biggest student technology competition.
Their entry was a conversion engine to drive cars powered by vegetable oil.
There were initially thousands of entries to the competition from over 100 countries, with the final 124 teams being judged in Paris.
Team Members were Brian Byrne, Aodhan Coffey, and Karl O’Dwyer, Mentored by Tom Lysaght.
Team AcidRain is planning a business venture and is hoping that this technology will be fitted to diesel engines and generators and thus help create a cleaner and more sustainable environment for us all. .
After receiving their award, the team from Maynooth drove back from Paris in their entry, a car powered by sunflower oil.
