Fergus Denman, an 18-year-old student from Maynooth in County Kildare, is the only student in Ireland to achieve the maximum possible 900 points in the Leaving Cert exams. Fergus was awarded nine A1 results in honours subjects.
Fergus will be taking time out from studying for a year while considering his options, and thinks he may eventually go in for studying social science subjects.
County Kildare students have a good track record with leaving cert results. In 2006, the only student in the country to get nine A1s was a student of the Patrician Secondary School in Newbridge.
