Nuala Madigan, Environmental Education Officer with the Irish Peatland Conservation Council, has recently been accepted as a Heritage and School Specialist.
The Heritage and Schools Scheme is a collaborative programme which is funded by the Heritage Council and administered by the Irish National Teacher’s Organisation (INTO).
The scheme envisages to generate interest and appreciation of our heritage in primary schools in a practical and teacher-friendly way. Nuala, who specialises in the wild boglands of Ireland, is available for half day or full day visits to schools.
The visits are designed to bring bogs to life in the classroom and activities include nature crafts, peatland formation, freshwater invertebrates, peatland flora and fauna and much more.
A visit to a peatland can also be arranged. If your school would like more information on the scheme visit www.into.ie or alternatively contact Nuala Madigan at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre on 045-860133 to arrange a visit today.
