Shop Athy Launch Free Flower Baskets

Athy Flowers Shop Athy, the voluntary marketing and developement group have launched their flower baskets project which will see baskets installed throughout the main streets in Athy in time for the National and European Ploughing Championships which are being held in the town at the end of September.

In its first year Shop Athy was responsible for a major painting initiave and flower basket project in the town in 2009, when large numbers of businesses joined the organisation which was created to encourage trade and enterprise in the towm.

This year funding has been secured from the Kildare Leader Partnership with a further contribution from the Athy Town Promoters Group which has allowed Shop Athy to offer the baskets to every premises in William Street, Duke Street and Leinster Street at no cost to the businesses.

Shop Athy will also maintain and water the baskets which it is invisaged will last through the winter. Those premises with existing flowers can have their baskets re-planted when the current plants come to the end of their life.

Members of Shop Athy are also involved in a number of other projects to boost business and attract trade and tourism to the town including the Chocolate Festival in December.

Shop Athy would like to remind all businesses in the town that the subscriptions which covers the running costs of the organisation and have been set at €250 or five payments of €50, are now due.
