Fine Gael Councillor Senan Griffin was elected Mayor of Kildare at the County Council's annual general meeting.
Councillor Griffin succeeds councillor Mary Glennon, Independent Councillor from Naas, and the new Deputy Mayor is Labour Councillor Paddy McNamara.
Councillor Griffin, who lives in Maynooth, is a former teacher and ex-principal of Maynooth Post-Primary School.
