New Campaign to Stop Drug Dealing

Dial-To-Stop-Drug-Dealing Kildare North Fianna Fáil TD and Minister of State, Áine Brady has welcomed the news that the confidential hotline ‘Dial to Stop Drug Dealing' has proved to be such a success.

"New figures show that 7,000 people have used the ‘Dial to Stop Drug Dealing' confidential hotline over the past two years."

"The service has provided 2,000 leads for Gardaí to follow up to tackle dealers. The line has been in operation since 2008 and is a very successful tool for local Gardaí in responding to those who want to peddle drugs in our communities."

"A new campaign has been launched to promote the line in Kildare and throughout the country - which will use local newspapers and radio."

"It is important that we again reassure people that they can provide information on an absolutely confidential basis. They do not have to leave a name and no telephone records will be kept, the call will not even appear on your bill."

"While the helpline has an important role to play it is also important to note that it is part of a multi agency approach to the drug problem. The Government believes in supporting addicts and their families while at the same time coming down hard on those dealing in drugs."

"The confidential number to provide information is 1890 220 220. More information is also available at www.dialtostop.ie."

"Kildare people have civic pride in their local areas and do not want drug dealers on their streets, local parks and in other areas, this line gives them an opportunity to report such activity in a way that will allow them to protect their areas without fear of intimidation", concluded Minister Brady.
