The Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) 2008 Litter League results have been announced.

The final survey for 2008 revealed that only 3 of 55 towns surveyed were deemed "seriously littered" while there are now no towns classified as "black spots".

Most Kildare towns did well in the survey with Naas, Maynooth and Leixlip ranking 21st, 22nd and 23rd respectively, and have been classed as 'Clean to European Norms'. Athy, however, ranked at 48 as was classed as being 'littered'.

Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) was set up in 1996 as an alliance of companies who believe that litter has a significant impact on our economic well-being. A major IBAL initiative has been the Anti Litter League which ranks the performance of each local authority in combating litter in a league table format. The league is no co-funded by the Dept. of the Environment.
