KILDARE CHILDREN’S TZIPORA MUSIC FESTIVAL

The second annual Kildare Children’s Tzipora Music Festival, incorporating The National Children’s Choir Regional Concert takes place in Goffs on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May 2003.

Over 800 primary school children from 23 primary schools around the county will participate in three concerts over the two-day festival. The programme encompasses a broad range of music and song, from chamber, percussion, woodwind, traditional and choral groups.

The Tzipora Children’s Music Festival provides a public platform, which showcases the work of Kildare County Council’s Music Outreach Programme and the National Children’s Choir over the school year.

Kildare County Council’s Arts Service, with Herbert Lodge Arts Centre co-ordinate the Music Outreach programme. The programme provides quality arts experiences for children in their school environment, while also promoting professional musicians living locally. The County Arts Service has established an Instrument Bank, which offers instruments on loan to schools involved in the programme. In response to an identified need, a number of primary schools countywide have participated in a Master Class Series, with one–off workshop/ performances.

Many of the children participating in the Music Outreach programme live in rural areas where opportunities to perform are minimal. Providing children with the opportunity to perform publicly is an important strand of the Music Outreach programme, and thus the Tzipora Children’s Music Festival was established.

The Music Outreach programme is part of the ongoing commitment by Kildare County Council in relation to arts developments around the county.
