This workshop with artist Melanie King allows participants the opportunity to learn about anthotype history and process. During the workshop you will be guided through the process of creating anthotypes using spinach leaves, vodka and water to create a spinach paste, which will then be used to coat watercolour paper. You'll also find out more about how anthotypes were discovered and used through the centuries, and other plants that you can experiment with in the future. More information on Melanie's work can be seen here: www.melaniek.co.uk.

The workshop is part of Tea by Post, a pilot seed-sharing project founded by artist Brenda Kearney in early 2021; in response to an initial call for participation, members of the public shared seeds for growing herbs for making tea. In return, they receive updates on research and growing in the form of small publications, and a special edition herbal tea at the end of the project. The tea serves as a portrait of all seeds shared. This initial run of the project is designed as an open research year, which is developing in response to interest and participation. A series of related workshops will take place in August and September 2021, funded and made possible by Creative Ireland and Kildare Arts Services.
