Bookmark Winners Awards

Rathangan Community Library was a very busy place on Saturday last 8th December. Kay Dunne Branch Librarian hosted not one but two events. Prizes were awarded to winners of the CBI Design a Festival Bookmark Competition and children who participated in ‘Come All Ye’ a series of traditional singing workshops in the library showcased their work.

Mayor of Kildare Mary Glennon made the presentations to the bookmark winners and Tom Donegan, Programme Officer Children’s Books Ireland (CBI) also attended. Winners were selected from branch libraries and two overall winners one, in the 10yrs and under category and one in the 11yrs and over category were chosen to represent Kildare in the national competition.
Mayor Glennon was delighted to make the award to Claire Malone from Naas whose design has won the 10years and under category of the competition at national level. Claire succeeded in beating off stiff competition from budding young artists from all over the Country and her design will be printed up and used for the official festival bookmark and poster in 2008. The full listing of winners is available on see the news section.
Following the award ceremony Artist Aileen Lambert from Wexford and a group of local children she has been working with entertained the audience with their interpretations of traditional songs and singing styles.

Commenting on the success of this competition Acting Assistant Arts Officer Brenda Brady would like to thank parents, teachers and schools for continuing to encourage children to submit entries and for their ongoing support and participation in Kildare County Council Library & Arts Service programmes
