Desmond Egan

An Archive Page StampFresh from a tour of America and Italy, Desmond Egan, the internationally renowned poet will launch a CD of his poetry in Riverbank Arts Centre on Tuesday 4th June at 8pm. The CD Needing the Sea contains a selection of poems published over the past thirty years. Desmond who lives in Newbridge, is the author of fifteen collections of poetry and one of prose. He is the recipient of numerous literary awards.

Festschift

A festschrift celebrating the life and work of great sculptor James Mc Kenna (1934-2000) will also be launched on the evening. The book features tributes by fifty friends and colleagues including Ronnie Drew, Pat Murphy, Brian Bourke and international guests Giuseppe Sarpillo and Hans Palsson. The editor of the book is Desmond Egan.

Both the CD and book will be available for sale from leading bookshops and the Arts Office.

Earnest Shackelton Writers Festival

The Arts Office of Kildare County Council will run a series of creative writing workshops in libraries countywide in October, in association with the Earnest Shackleton Autumn school. The Arts Office invites submissions from professional writers whose work is based on the theme of travel, exploration or endurance who would be interested in facilitating creative writing workshops and/ or who would be interested in producing prose or poetry on the themes. Closing date for submissions is 28th June 2002.

Mary Arrigan

Mary Arrigan, who hails from Newbridge, is author and illustrator of a colourful range of children’s books in English and Irish. She will read from her books and discuss her illustrations (some of which will be on display) in libraries countywide as part of the children’s summer festival.
