Narraghmore Pipe Band Promoted

An Archive Page Stamp

Congratulations to Lord Edward's Own Narraghmore Pipe Band who have been promoted to Grade 2 as a result of recent meetings of the Irish Pipe Band Association - National Advisory Council and the Royal Scottish Pipe Band
Association - Music Board.

The band had its best competitive season ever in 2002, taking first place in the Scottish Championships, the Ulster Championships and Malahide Championships. In addition to this, the band won the Irish Pipe Band Association Champion Of Champions award and came third in the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Champion of Champions in Grade 3A. This is the highest level the band has ever competed at and is a recognition of the dedication of the players and committee over many years. In addition to its competitive engagements the band also has a busy national and international schedule, most notably overseas trips include Expo 2000 in Hannover, Germany and New York St. Patrick's Day Parade; Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany.

Anyone interested in joining the band or registering for the limited number of places still available in its piping and drumming beginners classes starting in January should contact the band immediately.

Music Outreach Programme

Following consultation with teachers countywide, Kildare County Council has decided to expand the Music Outreach programme. The Art’s Service has now developed a year-round programme of Master Classes for schools who are unable to commit to weekly workshops with tutors. Master Classes would take the format of day-long workshops in schools with a performance in either Classical, Percussion, Traditional or Cajun music providing a holistic experience for teachers and children.

Details available from the arts service.
