Art History Lecture Series

Following the success of last years programme, Kildare Library and Arts Service presents a series of lectures on art appreciation, which are of general interest to all, but particularly of interest to Leaving Certificate Art students.

Maebh O’Regan, Ph D., lecturer in art history in the National College of Art and Design, presents a series of lectures examining European painting across the centuries, with diverse subjects from the role of the studio in the artist’s work, 17th Century genre painting (particularly the work of Vermeer and Rembrandt) to The Romantic Movement.

Meanwhile, Catriona Fallon, Visual Arts Programmer in Riverbank Arts Centre, examines Contemporary Irish Art.

World Book Day

 

Children are invited to celebrate World Book Day (Shakespeares’ birthday) and Anti-Racism Day with interactive storytelling workshops in their local library, examining different cultures.

Irish History Live tell a tale of 12th Century Crusaders and their enemies. The show will present how each culture was both different and similar, using their costume, armour, weapons, beliefs and leaders as the subjects. Children will dress as Richard the Lion Hearted and Saladin the Turk (and the ladies in their lives) and learn about their way of life. The show promises to have blood and guts and lots of fun !!

Two shows per day, Mornings: 11.00am – 12.15pm Afternoons: 3.30 – 4.45pm
Morning bookings open to school groups only. Suitable for 7-12yrs

The Magic of Dance

The Magic of Dance with Cathy O’Kennedy of Fluxusdance Company, Kildare County Council’s Dancer in Residence. The Magic of Dance is a modern dance experience for children. Children and artist’s will, as part of World Book Day celebrations make dances together, dance with one another and learn about the art of dance. The company will also perform for the children choosing from a repertoire of works that are a creative mix of dance and storytelling.

 

The experience is suitable for children aged from three to twelve years. Parents are welcome to stay and watch and to participate if they wish.
