Dance

The Laban Guild Community Dance Leaders Course is due to commence in Riverbank on 26th January. The course introduces Laban analysis, which can be applied to all dance styles and techniques. It is mainly practical and covers basic anatomy, teaching methods and dance making. In the long term the course will provide artists with dance teaching skills suitable for community or formal education. From 2nd to 8th April Riverbank Arts Centre will present ‘Made in Kildare’ – a showcase of work devised by Cathy O’Kennedy over a period of 4 years in her capacity as Dance Artist in Residence for Kildare County Council. Performances will include revisits of ‘Morphic Fields I and II’, ‘Bridie’ and a new piece ‘The Button Project’. The series will include performance/ workshops for children. The National Grant Scheme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People invites applications for The Go for Life National Grant Scheme. Proposals can include training opportunities, information seminars/ workshops, purchase of equipment/ resource materials, participation events and activity programmes involving older people.

Music

Spring Airs

A series of lunchtime concerts, in association with Kildare County Orchestra will take place in Council Chambers, St. Mary’s, Naas from 1pm to 2pm on Thursday 24th January, Thursday 28th February and Thursday 4th April. Admission is free and all are welcome. County Percussion Band

A world music percussion group have been established in association with the Red Hot Music Club and the Arts Office of Kildare County Council. The festival percussion band, under the direction of Eddie O’Neill, will have their first appearance at the Bealtaine Festival in Newbridge. Contact Arts Office for details.

Music Outreach Programme

The Arts Office of Kildare County Council, in partnership with The Herbert Lodge Arts Centre and the IRMA Trust are providing a subsidised Music Outreach Programme in primary schools throughout Kildare commencing September 2001. The programme ranges from the study of composition, violin, cello, recorder, voice, percussion and music appreciation. The lessons are tailored to the needs of individual schools and include class group, small group or individual lessons. Schools participating in the Music Outreach Programme are :
