An Archive Page Stamp Riverbank, Kildare County Councils Cultural Campus has opened its doors with an exciting programme of arts events. The first theatre event on July 25th was an International Poetry Reading courtesy of the Gerard Manley Hopkins International Summer School, while the first exhibition, by Japanese artist, Makiko Nakamura opened on 3rd August. Meanwhile audiences were enchanted by a childrens performance of ‘The Pied Piper of Hamlyn’. The centres Community Open Day takes place on Saturday 22nd September and all are welcome. The official opening by Minister of Finance, Mr.Charlie Mc Creevy takes place on 18th September.

A very big welcome to Catriona Fallon, who has joined the team as Marketing/ Visual Arts Co-ordinator. Many of you may know Catriona from the Graphic Studio Dublin Gallery.

County Arts CentreKildare Artsquad Have Moved
Kildare Artsquad have moved to Riverbank and are very excited about their involvement in this wonderful new development for the county. Their first year has been marvellous, making tentative steps into the creative world of community arts, learning new skills, being involved with local groups from around the county, making new friends and most importantly having fun. Artsquad will use their Naas premises for creative workshops in the future but at the moment it is full steam ahead with the opening of Riverbank.

Ernest Shackleton Autumn School

A celebration of the life and work of the renowned explorer, Kildare man Ernest Shackleton takes place in Athy over the October Bank Holiday weekend. Co-ordinated by the Athy Heritage Company, the School features guest speakers John Mc Kenna, RTE, producer and writer; Jonathan Shackleton, relative of Ernest Shackleton; Frank Nugent, Explorer and Michael Smith, author of ‘An Unsung Hero’ and arts and musical events.

Call For Artists

The Library and Arts Service of Kildare County Council invites submissions from artists for 2001/ 2 Arts in Libraries Programme countywide. Submissions relating to dance, visual arts, theatre, film, literature and music workshops, exhibitions, lectures and performances for both children and adults welcome.

The Arts Office of Kildare County Council invites submissions from visual artists and writers for a year- long Artist in Schools research programme 2001/2. Artists should have a keen interest in multi – disciplinary arts workshops. Experience of the arts in primary education desirable. Primary schools who are interested in participating should contact the Arts Office by September 21st.
