Gordon Bennett Celebrations
The Gordon Bennett Company Ltd. has been established to co-ordinate the centenary festival of the 1903 Gordon Bennett race. The race took place on a route covering Kilcullen, Athy, Castledermot, Monasterevin and Kildare Town as well as parts of Counties Laois and Carlow and was the first international motor race of its kind in Ireland.
The festival will take place on the May bank holiday weekend 2003, and will be focused on three main sprint events and a vintage car festival in Athy. A tourist trail is also being developed to mark the route and develop associated attractions/events. A series of activities and events will take place to coincide with the festival.
