Kildare County Council Reinforces Climate Ambitions on opening day of Kildare Climate and Energy Week
Tuesday 26th October:
Kildare’s first Climate and Energy Week gets underway with a packed schedule of events planned which will focus on a range of climate action and energy awareness topics aimed to create awareness and understanding of our energy and climate action responsibilities.
To officially mark the beginning of Kildare Climate and Energy Week, Kildare County Council signed an enhanced Covenant of Mayors - Europe to demonstrate continued commitment to climate ambitions and actions to ensure the well-being of present and future generations.
The Covenant of Mayors – Europe outlines a joint commitment of local governments and regions of all sizes and from countries across Europe to setting targets consistent with EU objectives, engaging with citizens, business and governments and acting now to accelerate the necessary transition to reach those targets.
Speaking on the opening day of Kildare Climate & Energy Week, Councillor Naoise Ó Cearúil, Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare said; "Kildare County Council is determined to play our part in tackling Climate Change. We are looking across our entire organisation and County to see where we can make further improvements. In signing the Covenant of Mayors - Europe, we are committed to enacting tangible steps in our Climate Action journey. I'm looking forward to the wide range of events that will be taking place this week for Climate and Energy Week."
The key commitments of Kildare County Council in signing the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy include:
- To produce a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) for Kildare
- Reducing CO2 emissions and our energy consumption
- Increasing resilience by adapting to the impact of climate change
Kildare Climate and Energy Week is being hosted by Kildare County Council supported by SEAI in partnership with communities, business, other state bodies and will feature panel discussions, demonstrations, presentations and expert insights.
The schedule of event runs until Friday 29th October and registrations for all events are available on the Kildare County Council website:
