Managing waste at Christmas can be challenging. given the increased amount of food and drink, packaging and so forth. See the guide  below for seven top tips on cutting down on food waste over Christmas.

People are also keen to recycle as much as possible at this time. Most of the extra packaging can go into the recycling bin if compacted, but it may also be necessary to stagger putting large packaging into it. If you can store the larger cardboard boxes for a couple of weeks before leaving them out that will help to even out the disposal.

Likewise, the glass and can recycling banks around the county are under a bit of pressure at this time of the year, so if you can put off visiting the banks over this period that helps us to maintain the banks properly. Locations of bottle banks HERE

Our two large recycling facilities (civic amenity centres) will take most recyclables so check out the opening times over Christmas here:

Christmas trees are something else that people are conscious of disposing of properly. The good news is that KCC has seven sites in the county that will take your (real- not fake!) Christmas tree and recycle it for free. The sites are located as follows (click on the HERE to bring you to the map):

Athy, Meeting Lane HERE

Celbridge Interchange HERE

Clane GAA HERE

Maynooth KCC MD office HERE

Monasterevin Moore Abbey Coillte carpark HERE

Naas, Fairgreen HERE

Newbridge KCC Nursery HERE

The trees are shredded and the mulch used by local community groups- please, no other waste to be left at these sites.
