New Sports Development Officer

Donna Berry has joined Kildare Sports Partnership as a Sports Development Officer.

Donna has a long association with Gaelic Football at club, college, and county level. She has represented Kildare at U16, minor, junior and senior levels, winning a junior All-Ireland title and going on to captain the senior ladies’ team.

Donna studied Recreation Management at Waterford institute of Technology and has prior Sports Partnership experience in Laois.

Donna says, ‘I’m delighted to take up this position with Kildare Sports Partnership, a very welcoming team.

I’m involved in online outreaches at the moment, including the Body Mind Movement programme for over 50s. It’s great to see men, women and couples signing up and smiling through their sessions.

I’m also working on new Summer programmes for teenage girls – Women in Sport is a strong focus for Kildare Sports Partnership.

Having been involved in Gaelic Football at a high level myself, I know a lot about the pressures and rewards of competitive sport. I also know that some girls prefer not to compete, which is why we’re developing a range of holistic options, like yoga, nutrition, and mindfulness. We want to create positive pathways, so they stay engaged.

I hope we can move towards meeting people face to face over the Summer – it would be fantastic to schedule some safe outdoor activities.

I’m excited about what’s ahead and the potential impact of our programmes. My team is passionate and proactive – that brings out the best in all of us’.
