Born in Kilbrittain, County Cork in 1921, Patrick Scott trained as an architect. He had his first exhibition in 1944, but did not become a full time artist until 1960. He has works in several major collections including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. He has also represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale.

These three screen prints by Patrick Scott are all works on a similar theme. All three are abstract works made from a few geometric shapes that suggest the natural forms of nature, resembling foliage. The colours Scott uses reinforce this reading. All three works use earth tones of browns and beiges, with only “Arcady IV” straying from this palette using green. In all the works the natural colour of the canvas is visible, rather than the bleached canvas that is usually used by artists. This natural canvas again adds to the earthiness of the works. They look like a stylised, paired back version of Georgia O’Keeffe’s flower paintings.
