The 36th Ryder Cup matches will be played at the K Club, Straffan, Co. Kildare in September 2006. Around 40,000 spectators per match day are expected with around 20,000 on practice days.
A special allocation was received to fund major road works in and around the area. These include the following works:
The Barberstown to Straffan road was re-opened to traffic on Friday 26th May, 2006. The roundabout is now substantially completed and traffic is using the roundabout. Accommodation works, landscaping works, footpaths and surfacing to be completed by the end of June 2006.
Straffan village enhancement scheme is ongoing and is due to be completed by the end of July 2006.
There will be traffic restrictions in and around the K Club for the duration of the event. The attached map gives detailed information of the traffic restrictions. Traffic and security management for the Ryder Cup event will be controlled by the Gardaí. The road closure points indicated on the attached map will be manned 24 hours a day for the week of the Ryder Cup. Entrance to the security area will be limited to vehicles carrying Garda security phones.
