Selection for the European Team will be based on points players earn on The Ryder Cup world points list and the European points list.

The Ryder Cup world points list is made up of official world golf ranking points won by a European Tour member from each tournament in which he takes part between September 1st, 2005 and September 3rd, 2006.

The Ryder Cup European points list is comprised of points earned by a European Tour member from all officially sanctioned events counting towards the European Tour Order of Merit between September 1st, 2005 and September 3rd, 2006.
The final team will comprise:
Captain Ian Woosnam has chosen Ireland’s Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood of England as his two wild card selections for The Ryder Cup.

The 2006 U.S. Ryder Cup Team is chosen on the basis of points compiled by The PGA of America, which players accumulated from August 22nd, 2004 (WGC-NEC Invitational) through to the 88th PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill., which concludes August 20th, 2006. Points are awarded for the top 10 finishes at PGA Tour co-sponsored events, which are listed on the official site. The top 10 on the points list will qualify, and the two final players will be selected by the U.S. Ryder Cup Captain, Tom Lehman.
U.S. Captain Tom Lehman has selected Stewart Cink and Scott Verplank as his two wild card selections for The Ryder Cup.
