Tue 18 Feb 2003

(a) “That all documents, sign etc for Naas contain Nas na Riogh and not An Nas”

This motion was proposed by Cllr. Conway and seconded by Cllr. Bracken.

The Town Clerk stated that the matter would be taken up with the Place Names Commission. The Town Engineer also stated that the Department of the Environment and Local Government and the National Roads Authority would also have to agree in relation to the name on the signs.

The motion was agreed by the meeting.

(b) “That the Millbrook Wood Project be carried out”.

This motion was proposed by Cllr. Conway and seconded by Cllr. Bracken.

The Town Clerk read a report for the benefit of the meeting. The Town Clerk stated that over the past number of years the Council has been providing an annual sum in the Budget towards the development of the Millbrook Wood. He stated that some years ago Conservation Volunteers of Ireland were asked to draw up a plan for the redevelopment of this area and this was discussed and agreed with the Millbrook Resident’s Association. The Town Clerk stated that in addition to the works at Millbrook Wood itself there are other works such as the rebuilding of the stone wall, the possible piping of the stream, the construction of a footpath from Corban’s Lane to the entrance to Millbrook on the Friary Road which have to be undertaken. He stated that the plan proposes that this Wood be essentially a conservation area for wildlife and one to which the general public would not have access.

The Town Clerk stated that the recent granting of a planning permission provides further monies towards the development of this project. The Town Clerk stated that he has arranged to have revised costing prepared in relation to this project and bring these to the Council at a future meeting. He stated that it would be intended to commence this project during the current year.

Cllr. Conway stated that he welcomed the report and stated that this wood was currently turning into a derelict site.

The motion was agreed by the meeting.

(c) “That the Industrial Sites at Jigginstown in Naas Town Councils ownership be organised for allocation”.

This motion was proposed by Cllr. Conway and seconded by Cllr. Callaghan.

The Town Clerk read a report for the benefit of the meeting. The Town Clerk stated that the Council has received an application for the purchase of 8.5 acres by Alde of industrial zoned lands at Jigginstown. If this development is approved by the Council, there will still remain approximately 6 acres of industrial zoned land which are available to the Council to facilitate the development of small industrial enterprises. He stated that to date there have been two tentative enquiries to purchase these lands. He stated that the way to proceed is to advertise the availability of land and invite applications from interested parties.

Cllr. Conway stated that there were a large number of indigenous businesses in the town which Naas Town Council would want to facilitate.

The motion was agreed by the meeting.
