Canal Woods

I Was A Child In These Fields

I was a child in these fields
Made daisy chains
Picked cowslips
In the woods we played
Fished in the canal
Dived from the lock
Played horses in Knox
Skated the Moat
Blew Love me Love knots
Sang by heart the daily prayer
Now I walk where we raced boxes

And I admire the chestnut
