Swimmers: proficiency awards are aligned with the Halliwick Method and are nationally recognised. Instructors and Helpers: training courses in the Halliwick Method are held at both national and regional level. As demand is usually high, affiliated members are given priority at reduced cost. Swim Ireland teaching award courses, Life Saving and Water Safety courses are arranged. The instructors' qualifications range from Halliwick Instructor's Certificate to lecturer accreditation. Standards are set and examined by AST. The Starfish club members include several qualified Life Guards, certified Swimming Teachers and Preliminary Swimming Teachers, Water Safety Instructors, Snorkelling Instructors and experienced canoeists and scuba-divers.
