Kathleen Brophy, who has been installed as National President Soroptimist International Republic of Ireland at a ceremony at the Federation Conference in Barbados in November, 2008, attended by 30 countries and hosted by the Prime Minister of Barbados. She is a member of the North Kildare Soroptimist Club and her focus for her year in office is lobbying for the rights, care and protection of children.

Federation Conference 2008, Barbados. Irish soroptimists National President Oranea S.I. Colombo, Sri Lanka with a cheque for 3,500 euros towards their Tsunami fund for a new school on land donated by the Brothers of Charity in Colombo. Already 25,000 euro has been presented by the Irish Clubs to this fund to help replace the school destroyed by the Tsunami.
NATIONAL PROJECT

The National Project 2008-9 is raising funds to buy much needed physiotherapy equipment for the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dun Laoire, in particular the Children's Unit. The Hospital held a Reception for Soroptimists on the 24th Jan 2009 to say thank you. National President - Aine Brady
Aine Brady from Clane, Co. Kildare, was inaugurated
as National President, Soroptimist International, Republic of
Ireland at a function held in Glasgow on the 2 Nov 2002 which
was attended by delegates from all over the world. This is a
great honour both for Aine and the North Kildare Soroptimist

National President, Soroptimists International
Republic of Ireland, Aine Brady was present at Shannon Airport
on Tues. last April 22nd to see off the ten finalists, and five
reserves of the Soroptimists Public Speaking Competition to
Strasbourg. The trip was compliments of the European Parliament.
The students will be given the opportunity to attend the Euroscola
Programme which will be held in the European Parliament building
"Louise Weiss" (IPE IV). Part of their brief will
be to address the European Parliament on five selected topics.
The winner of the competition was Aimee Joyce, Loretto College,
Balbriggan and among the finalists are two local girls, Kate
Geraghty, Presentation Secondary School, Kildare and Cara Heaney,
St. Mary's College, Naas. Eleven countries are participating
in the programme and four Soroptimists members are travelling
with the students including Therese O'Doherty.
On Sat. 26th April National President Aine will be presenting
a large cheque to the Special Olympics Committee, funds raised
by the Soroptimists during the past year as part of their National
Project.
